Yesterday, the election officials in Moldova sent to the polling stations to provide projections for the presidential elections and referendums on the direction of the country towards joining the European Union. Voting in the presidential elections and the referendum on joining the EU began without incidents in the small former Soviet republic, the chairman of the Central Election Commission, Angelica Karaman, reported in the capital, Chisinau. She noted that tens of thousands of voters had participated in the first hours of the polls' opening. The commission added that 30 polling stations were opened in the eastern Pridnestrovian republic, supported by Russia, along the border with Ukraine, as well as 231 other polling stations abroad.
